Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has reactivated the inspirational tweets his Twitter page was known for especially before the 2015 general elections.
On Thursday, the Vice President took to his Twitter wall to reactivate the genre of blogging the page has been associated with. He urged Nigerian entrepreneurs to be socially-responsible.
Despite the hate speeches that dominated the social media pages of the many Nigerian politicians during the general elections, Osinbajo was able to find a different approach to seeking support for his online campaign.

ADVERTISEMENTBut hours after the new administration was inaugurated on May 29, Osinbajo took a break from Twitter, leaving a vacuum in the micro-blogging platform that remained dry until a few days ago.
Those who thought the pressure of office may dampen his idea on how social media should be used may have been proved wrong by the Vice President. At least, his comeback tweets do not point to an Osinbajo who is giving up on his resolve to make his Twitter page an inspirational digital ‘book.’
“While the basic purpose of a company remains the creation of wealth, social conscience must be seen as compatible and complementary to it. Beyond complying with prescriptive rules of conduct, what about inputting sustainability as a business case in corporate strategy?” he asked.
The VP called on businesses to be responsible to disadvantaged Nigerians and join the Federal Government’s efforts to address social challenges.
“Sustainability can be modelled on three principles –creativity, scalability and responsiveness. Responsibility to disadvantaged Nigerians requires that business creativity needs to also be directed to solving Nigeria’s social problems,” he said in the tweets.
He urged companies in Nigeria to seek for “something other than the lowest short-term cost for the highest short-term gain.”
Osinbajo said organisations should play their parts to ensure that Nigeria achieves its lofty dreams, saying they could find a balance between profit-making and social welfare.
“By serving the poor, businesses can gain new sources of revenue growth and greater efficiencies with cost reduction initiatives. A sustainable future is only possible through building and functioning in an integrated ecosystem,” he tweeted.
Osinbajo stressed that the vision of the President “is to build a fair and inclusive Nigerian enterprise” where the majority can afford a decent living.
The tweets were an endorsement of a lecture by a former High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Dr. Christopher Kolade, entitled, ‘Beyond compliance: Imbibing a culture of business integrity.’
After a Twitter pause that lasted from May 29 to June 21, Osinbajo thus appears to have come back with posts that are capable of motivating many.
He tweeted, “Sights set on the goal! A clear view of the task at hand! Today and many more days ahead, all hands on desk!” Days after the post was published, tweeters are still sharing it.
The Thursday’s posts sparked a debate on what many people have considered as the uncaring attitude of the business community.
One Duyilemi Banji, on Twitter, said society would gain more from the business community when the operators generated enough jobs to go round.
Before the inauguration, Osinbajo had promised that the administration would serve diligently and focus on quality service delivery.
“The paradigms are accountable to people, service with utmost responsibility, integrity and efficiency,” he had said in a tweet.
