Nigerian goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama will
now play under a new coach, Herve Renard, after the Frenchman was
unveiled as the replacement for Rene Girard on Monday.
Renard, who had had a brief spell
coaching Sochaux toward the end of the 2013-14 season, quit his job as
Ivory Coast manager to join the Ligue 1 club, saying he was open to new
challenges.
In February, the 46-year-old Frenchman
led the Elephants of Ivory Coast to their first African Cup of Nations
title since 1992, three years after leading unheralded Zambia to the
African Cup.
Lille finished in eighth place this season.
Renard, who has agreed a three-year
contract, said, “It’s an honour to join a club as prestigious as Lille. I
can’t wait to begin this adventure with my squad.
“I said to myself, that after the success
at the Africa Cup of Nations, it would be difficult to do better and I
have to open myself up to other challenges.”
