Osun West Senatorial By-Election: It Is Ademola Adeleke Vs Mudashiru Hussain

The coast is clear for the Osun West Senatorial by-election between Ademola Adeleke, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP candidate and a former Commissioner in Osun State, Mudashiru Hussain, the All progressives Congress, APC candidate.

Having polled 2,412 of the 2,413 votes cast in the party’s primary held on Wednesday, Hussain emerged as the flag-bearer of the APC for the July 8 by-election.
Hussain was declared winner by the party Screening Committee, chaired by the Zamfara State House of Assembly Speaker Sanusi Rikiji.

This was the committee that earlier disqualified Hussain for refusing to resign his appointment with the State Government as commissioner.

The National Working Committee of the party, according to findings had to wade in to ensure that he was cleared by the committee just few hours to the primary.

Disturbed by the internal politics, one of the aspirants, Ademola Adeleke who happens to be the brother of the late senator Isiaka Adeleke had to decamp to pitch his tent with the PDP.

To accommodate him and of course to give APC the running for its money, all aspirants in PDP stepped down for Adeleke.

While Hussain survived the axe of the APC screening committee, he would be facing Adeleke on July 8, in a by-election many had described could go either way judging by the circumstance that surrounds the emergence of the Adeleke PDP candidate.

Adeleke won yesterday’s primary of the PDP held at its Iwo Township Stadium with 343 votes.

One major scenario that is playing out now is that Osun people, most especially those from Ede where Adeleke had hailed from would be out to cast sympathy vote.

Their argument was that the only way to compensate the family of the late Isiaka Adeleke was to vote for his brother.
