Robbers attack Jigawa gov’s media aide, snatch vehicle

 

Malam Bello Zaki, the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Governor Muhammad Badaru of Jigawa State, has been attacked by armed robbers.

Zaki was attacked on Sunday, while his official vehicle was snatched on the Kano-Kazaure Expressway.

It was gathered that the incident occurred at about 6.55pm while Bello Zaki was travelling to his hometown, Kazaure, in company with a friend and his daughter.

Security sources, told NEWS MEN that the robbers, who were clad in police camouflage, also attacked other motorists, searched and carted away their personal belongings.

The source said, “The robbers operated for about 45 minutes.

“They also snatched five posh vehicles, including that of Zaki. They zoomed off towards the Kano end of the expressway.

“Not long after they left the scene, luck almost ran out on the robbers because one the stolen vehicles had an accident at Dambatta. But they abandoned it and left in the other stolen cars.”

It was learnt that some villagers, who witnessed the accident, initially rushed to the scene for a rescue mission. They were, however, taken aback, when the two of the robbers disembarked from the damaged vehicle, jumped into a waiting car and fled the area.

The source said, “The curious villagers conducted a search and found phones and a wallet containing ATM cards, identity cards and some documents in the abandoned vehicle.”

Zaki told PUNCH Metro that the robbers snatched his official vehicle and made away with valuable items.

He said, “While the robbers escaped with five vehicles, including my own, they had an accident with one of the stolen vehicles at Dambatta town, which they abandoned.

“It was at the scene of the accident that some people discovered one of my phones, another phone belonging to my daughter and a wallet containing my ATM and ID cards.”

Zaki, who said he had reported the matter at the Makoda Police Division, stated that the robbers did not harm any motorist.

He added that the robbers, however threatened to kill anyone who dared to disobey them.

The state command’s Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Magaji Majia, could not be reached on the telephone.
