Again the Ondo Peoples Democratic Party
has said that the All Progressives Congress in the state was yet to
understand the intention behind the residence card scheme of the
Governor Olusegun Mimiko-led administration.
The Publicity Secretary of the Ondo PDP,
Mr. Banji Okunomo, said the scheme, also known as “kaadi igbe ayo,” was
to enable the people of the state to enjoy the dividends of democracy.
The APC had, in a statement, lambasted
the state government for allegedly wasting N5bn on the project without
corresponding benefits.
He said the government meant well for the people of the state by coming up with the scheme.
Okunomo spoke with journalists shortly
after the party chairman, Clement Faboyede, received the US-based
political analyst and Economic Chief of the United State Embassy, Lagos,
Mr. Tom Harns.
In his reaction, the Publicity Secretary
of the Ondo APC, Abayomi Adesanya, insisted that the project was another
means of wasting the taxpayers’ money, saying the project had failed
from the outset.
Speaking in a telephone interview,
Adesanya said, “The project is a sham. Mimiko has wasted our resources
in this state by spending N5bn on the project that he has commenced
since 2009. There is no dividend of democracy to benefit from the
scheme.”
