The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria
Security and Civil Defence Corps has said that the officers who are
aggrieved because they were not upgraded should wait for the next
promotion exam.
In a statement issued by the corps on
Monday, the state commandant, Mr. Gabriel Abafi, through his
spokesperson, Mr. Mefor Chibuzo, said that all officers who succeeded in
the last promotion exercise had started receiving their letters.
Abafi explained that the Ministry of
Interior had a board made up of the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and
Prison Service Board, whose exclusive role was to conduct promotion
exam for aforementioned agencies.
Gabriel
stressed that the board organised promotion examination some months ago
for the corps throughout the country, adding that none of the officers
was disenfranchised because all eligible officers participated in the
promotion exams.
He stated, “It is understood that some
officers who were not promoted will be aggrieved, but this should not
result in making malicious statements against the corps. Promotion is
not a one-off thing, it is a continuous process. People who were not
promoted can equally be promoted in the next promotion exercise.
“The board has other criteria that the
eligible candidates must meet before they are promoted. All these are at
the discretion of the board, not the NSCDC. All the officers who
succeeded in the last promotion exercise have started receiving their
promotion letters. These letters come from the board.
According to him, the NSCDC is a
paramilitary organisation, under the Ministry of Interior, committed to
the protection of lives and property as well as the critical
infrastructure of the government.
