Substantive PDP Chairman To Emerge In August

 

A substantive national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will emerge next month. 

Also, the PDP Post-elec­tion Review Committee, led by deputy senate president, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu was granted a 10 weeks extension to finish their work.

This was disclosed after the Board of Trustee (BoT) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met in Abuja.

Following the forced resignation of the former chairman, Adamu Mu’azu in May 20 this year, the deputy national chairman Uche Secondus, was in keeping with the party’s constitution, elevated to the chairmanship position albeit in acting capacity.

The party further declared that the substantive chairman would emerged from the North East where the position was zoned to in 2012.
But speaking after the meeting, the secretary of the BoT, Senator Walid Jubrin, said “like you are aware the appointment of the acting Chairman Is for three months and after three months we will seat again, because byour constitution the board of trustees regulates it’s own activities. We will regulate our own activities when the time comes.”
Commenting on the Sen. Ekweremadu committee, Walid who is also the secretary of the committee said “We have sought for an extension for up to 10 weeks to complete our job as three weeks will not allow us to do a proper job.
“We have asked the NWC to look at it and have accepted and granted thepermission to extend it to 10 weeks. I do not think we are going to exceed that 10 weeks.”
He noted that PDP will rebounce just as he sought the cooperation, from party members. He added that the committee is planning a tour of the geopolitical zone as part of their assignment.
He said “We have to set up a road map, an action plan Which we are planning to do. We have invited for memorandum and we are just getting the memorandum from every member of the party for the way forward which we have come here to discuss to help the committee.
“We Are also planning a special tour to the various zones to meet with the stakeholders and discuss with them and find out anybody capable of writing a memorandum on what we face and we are going to collect this by tomorrow we are meeting again put all these things together and come up with a road map.
He added that the Board of Trustees of the party is “up to the task of providing guidance not only to the executives of the party but to members of the national assembly that is why we have involved ourselves very much in the collaboration with the National working committee to ensure that there is synergy between the appointments within the national assembly.
“We are calling on all our members to remain calm and should not be disturbed That we are doing all our best to ensure sanity is Brought to our party.”
He added that the issue of the PDP governors Forum chairman has been resolved. He said there was no petition before the party on that, stressing “the Board of Trustees was not given any petition. I am telling you whatever the issue, the issue has been resolved already.”
