See how APC slams PDP for demanding Ambode’s asset declaration

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode
The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has berated its Peoples Democratic Party counterpart for issuing a 14-day ultimatum to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to publicly declare his assets or be disgraced.
Ambode had declared his assets to the Code of Conduct Bureau as required by the constitution but failed to make the contents public and the PDP warned that “if the governor fails to take up this moral challenge, he will thereafter be labelled ‘Governor Pretender’ throughout his tenure.”

However, the APC in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, described the PDP as a party of uninformed individuals.

The APC said the constitution did not require the governor to declare his assets publicly. Rather, it said what the constitution demanded was for a public official to declare his assets to the CCB upon assumption of office.
The party dismissed the Lagos PDP as a group of ill-informed jokers “who are being dealt a big blow by their present shambolic state.”
The statement read, “The Lagos PDP continues to make us believe it exists in Lagos where it has been dealt serious electoral blows year in, year out. Lagos PDP is an unserious group that periodically amuses itself with such hollow vituperations as asking Governor Ambode to declare his assets or be regarded as ‘pretender governor’-whatever that means.
“It is not surprising that the Lagos PDP is coming out the way it did after the overwhelming APC victory in Lagos and the centre, as well as a majority of the states in Nigeria.
“The Lagos PDP, in demanding that Governor Ambode should declare his assets, must have woken up from a long slumber that robs them both of the constitutional provision on assets declaration and the fact that, as the incoming governor, Ambode declared his assets to the Code of Conduct Bureau, in line with the constitutional requirements for his office.”
The APC urged the Lagos PDP to develop a new hobby that would keep it occupied for the next four years rather than making uninformed statements.
The ruling party said the people of Lagos would not take the PDP seriously if it continued to speak without caution.
