PDP We’ll regain our stolen mandate from APC

 Mr. Taofik Gani

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party says it is confident of regaining its ‘stolen mandate’ from the All Progressives Congress.
The PDP, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Taofik Gani, on Sunday, said this while reacting to the ruling of the Edo House of Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal which has declared a PDP candidate, Sylvanus Eriagha, winner of the election.
The tribunal had decided the case over the neglect of the APC to conduct its primary given the 21 days notice as prescribed in Section 85 of the Electoral Act.

Commending the judgement, the PDP particularly noted that the judgement came about because of the readiness and sincerity of the judges to abide by the law, “no matter who it benefits.”
The PDP, therefore, admonished the judges in the Lagos governorship and legislative tribunals to be unbiased.

The statement read, “We welcome the Etsako-West constituency II election judgement because, firstly, it has further strengthened our election jurisprudence that laws and guidelines meant for elections to guarantee fair play must be sacrosanct and observed, irrespective of the players.
“Secondly, it is exciting to us because the same contraption also occurred in Lagos State and we expect that the judges will also do justice and eschew any issue of technicality aimed at circumventing justice.”
However, the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Lagos State, Mr. Joe Igbokwe, described the PDP’s claims as laughable.
Igbokwe said, “The Lagos PDP amuses us to the extent that we doubt whether they really know the strength of our party in Lagos. Former President Goodluck Jonathan was desperate to win the last election and because of this, he pumped billions of naira, millions of dollars and pound sterling to buy votes from the poverty-stricken people he created in the first place.”
