Senator Tayo Alasoadura, who represents
the Ondo central senatorial district at the upper legislative chamber of
the National Assembly, has been under fire for supporting the emergence
of Senator Bukola Saraki as the Senate President. Alasoadura is a
member of the All Progressive Congress.
The senator was alleged to have been the
only representative from the South-West who attended the plenary
session where Saraki and his Deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, were elected for
the senate leadership positions.
An
APC chieftain from Iju, Akure North Local Government Area of the state
who spoke on behalf of the party members, on a radio programme monitored
in Akure, on Friday, Mr. Saka Ogunleye, alleged that the lawmaker was
involved in anti-party activities and should be sanctioned for it.
Ogunleye said, “How can an APC loyal
party member join the PDP in electing a PDP as senate deputy president?
This action is an act of insubordination and we condemn it in totality.
It is anti-party and a total disrespect to the leadership of our party.”
While stressing that Alasoadura’s
decision did not represent the interest of the people of his Ward 8 in
Iju and the entire electorate in the senatorial district, Ogunleye
alleged that, “ Senator Alasoadura has lost touch with his people and we
have asked our ward chairman to set up a disciplinary committee to look
into his activity in accordance with the constitution of our party.”
“We cannot continue to condone
indiscipline irrespective of status or age. We must allow the
constitution of our party to take its course,” he declared.
However, another APC member in the local
government, Mr. Kola Omoloju, said Alasoadura had done nothing wrong,
saying the senator followed his conscience by supporting Senators Saraki
and Ekweremadu’s leadership at the Senate.
Efforts to reach Alasoadura through his telephone line were unsuccessful as it did not connect as at press time.
