Last week episode of the on-going
Etisalat-sponsored Nigerian Idol Season 5 was spectacular for the
contestants and even the viewers as the edition was proudly Nigerian
with the contestants performing the songs of Nigerian celebrated
artistes.
Classiq Tunez, Preye, Dolu, K-Peace and
Nex2 who emerged the Top 5 contestants after the eviction of Sther and
Brenda from the competition, took turns to deliver thrilling
performances to the delight of the studio audience and judges, including
the Guest Judge, Cool FM’s On-Air Personality, Mannie.
Classiq Tunez opened the curtain of
performances with an electrifying rendition of Wizkid’s song titled
‘Dance.’ Preye continued the trail of heart-warming performances with
Yemi Alade’s ‘Johnny,’ after which Dolu got a standing ovation from the
judges with her superlative performance of ‘Wanted’ by Tiwa Savage.
K-Peace brought the Dreams Studio’s roof
down with an adrenaline-charged performance of ‘Shake Body’ by Skales
which the judges described as ‘hot’ while it was cold performance by
Nex2 whose song choice of ‘Gobe’ by Davido was described by the judges
as a wrong choice of song.
Dolu and Classiq Tunez failed to live up
to expectation during the second round of performances, while Preye and
K-Peace made the judges proud with their individual performances. Nex 2
made up for his first poor performance by rounding off the show’s
performances with an outstanding performance of Timi Dakolo’s ‘Iyawo
Mi.’
Speaking on the performances of the
contestants, Head, Youth Segment, Etisalat Nigeria, Elvis Daniels was
full of encomiums for them, noting that, “Tonight, the contestants have
taken the performances of Nigeria’s celebrated songs some notches higher
and I am glad that the Nigerian youths have taken advantage of the
Nigerian Idol platform.’’
Daniels’ view was corroborated by Dede
Mabiaku who commended the contestants for their evolution in the
competition, adding that, “Our contestants keep evolving on a weekly
basis and we are proud of them.”
