For the first time since Season 5
kicked off, we see the top 12 perform together as a group before they
had their individual performances. The group performed to Ese Arinze’s
‘Shake Your Body’ and they were all looking glamorous in their
traditional attire.
There was a new addition to the show – Kayla from CoolFM – who will
hangout with the contestatns backstage and get all the off-stage info
for you. The first contestant to grace the stage was Brenda with ‘Bottom
Belle’ from Sonny Bobo. Not to take the focus from her voice, but she
looked different shades of amazing. Actually all the contestants did.
Just putting it out there so we don’t have to continuously say that.
Yinka totally loved the performance and even asked Nigeria to vote for
her. Nex 2 hit the stage with Oriri’s ‘Sisi Eko’ and Darey seemed to be
feeling the beat, however he was not feel his storytelling abilities as
much as his performance.Mike Okri’s ‘Time Na Money’ was rendered by Preye and the judges had mixed reactions about her performance. While Darey just thought it was okay, Dede felt the performance was fab.
Prime brought a love song to stage singing ‘Ifeoma’ by Felix Liberty and he got Yinka Davies grinning. Darey just wasn’t feeling the contestants at this stage though – he felt our top 12 weren’t bringing their A-game just yet. Dolu tried to impress the judges with her rendition of Orlando Julius’ ‘Moti Gbo Orokan’, and while the judges felt she’s likeable they felt she had poor stage performance.
- Scholes channelled his inner Victor Uwaifo while singing the classic ‘Joromi’ but once again felt as though the judges were looking for something the contestants were not just ready to deliver. Maybe this new school of singers weren’t raised with Highlife in their homes!
It was a hard act to follow but next was Modele who was Christy Igbokwe for the night. The judges thought she did pretty well.
Looking like an Igbo princess, Uloma sang ‘Love Adure’ and she had fun while at it. Classiq Tunez came with an Ebenezer Obey classic which sure got Dede in a happy mood and got a standing ovation from the audience and very positive responses from the judges. Darey said Classiq Tunes hasn’t for once made them regret the golden ticket he was given and right now we are happy for the opportunity he got in the top 12.
Ever thought how people would feel if you got married to a taxi driver? Well Ayoka gives us our view on that in ‘Taxi Driver’ and she really doesn’t care. Her performance was one of the highlight of the night, in Darey’s words. Finally we had the fuji master himself sing ‘Yellow Sisi’ and from the first note we could tell the judges were in love.
It’s up to you now Nigeria, who would you keep in the competition. Vote now!
