Over the weekend, some members of the
four times Grammy award winning Jamaican seven-man DJ group, Black
Chiney, who are also Rihanna’s DJ, were in Lagos courtesy of Heineken’s
Green Party.
In a chat with Saturday Beats, the group
said that it was its first time in the country and that Nigeria has so
many talents. It hinted that Wizkid is the first Nigerian artiste it
would like to work with. The DJs also told Saturday Beats that their
favourite Nigerian song is Johnny by Yemi Alade.
“We love the singer (Yemi) because we
have seen her video. We look forward to meeting her. Wizkid, Timaya,
P-square, they are all amazing artistes. Given the chance, we would love
to work with all the established Nigerian artistes because they are all
so talented. Nigeria has a big pool of talented artistes. Wizkid is on
our number one check list. We need to work with him immediately. Wizkid
would be the first artiste we would love to work with in Nigeria because
there are some ideas that we have that would suit him well,” they said.
Although only two of the seven man team
could make the trip, they were able to get Lagosians to dance to their
rhythm as they took turns behind the wheels of steel.
They said, “We are happy to be in Nigeria
and we have been shown a lot of love which we will give back in the
club. Just two of us are in Nigeria because we are the most important
ones. Plus we play in about five different countries in one night, so we
have to split sometimes because of that. We are happy Heineken brought
us to Nigeria and we appreciate it because it is an experience of a
lifetime.”
Talking about their experience since they
came to Nigeria, the DJs said, “Before we got to Nigeria, we had learnt
that they have good food here but we haven’t eaten the jollof rice that
was promised us. The perception the western world has of Nigeria is
that it is a bad place but visiting here, we have found out that it is
not true.”
