Mimiko’s Defection: NLC Calls For Suspension Of Labour Party’s Convention

MIMIKO-DEFECTS-TO-PDPSequel to the defection of Ondo State governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Lagos State Council of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the national executives of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and NLC to suspend the proposed convention of the Labour Party scheduled to hold in Ondo State forthwith.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the NLC state secretary, Comrade John Odigie and chairman, Political Committee, Ismail Bello respectively over the weekend.

According to NLC, “We know that Governor Mimiko opted to host the convention of the Labour Party on October 4, 2014 but shifted it to October 8, 2014. His official defection along with the members of the legislature and members of the party to PDP makes it unethical and immoral for him to host and bankroll the convention of the party as he is no longer a member of the party.”
The statement reads in part, “We urge the National Political Commission to convene a stakeholders meeting with core leaders of the national/state leaders of the party from the labour movement with a view to return the party to its ideals of social democracy”.
NLC also urged all politicians particularly in Lagos State and nationwide who conceptualised Labour Party to steer clear of their resources, as the party is not a cash and carry political party or an appendage to any political party.
