A chieftain of the All
Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara, Alhaji Ibrahim Ruwan-Dorowa,
has advised the party against selecting candidates for the 2015 general
elections.
He said the process might endanger the party’s interest at the polls.
Ruwan-Dorowa gave the advice on Thursday in Gusau when he received in audience, members of the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) who paid him a courtesy visit.
The elder statesman said the leadership of the party should elect candidates through primaries “because that is the only way to maintain peace and stability within our great party.
“I believe this process, being the cardinal principle of the APC, will also guarantee victory for the party and ensure justice for all ’’.
He decried the situation where the party leadership was making arrangements to give some aspirants automatic tickets in the state.
“ I bet you this will cause havoc within the party because it is against the party’s constitution.’’
He said “our people’s level of education and political awareness has increased, so we should allow them to vote for their aspirants and not to decide for them.
“The people of Zamfara have learnt that the idea of nomination of candidates as done in the past did not yield us good political result; we therefore, need to be allowed to elect our leaders’’.
Ruwan-Dorowa therefore urged party members to play by the rules, to succeed in the elections. (NAN)
