Many residents, who spoke to our correspondent confessed to have bathed with hot water mixed with salt at exactly 4 am yesterday, following from calls from family relations to do so.
Text messages instructing people to bathe with salt water started coming in around 2am Friday, with strong warnings as “For the protection of yourself and family, boil hot water now and add salt to it. Use the mixture to take a bath to keep Ebola virus out of your doorstep.”
Another text message reads: “For you not to be infected by Ebola virus, kindly add salt in a bucket of water and bath with it before daybreak. Say no to Ebola disease.”
These texts created unnecessary panic among residents and it has been reported that in obeying instructions of the messages, numerous parents woke their children up in the middle of the night to drink the salt concoction and some were reported to have started vomiting because of the quantity of water they were forced to drink.
Also, wife of Kaduna State governor, Hajiya Fatima Mukhtar Ramalan Yero dispelled rumours credited to her office that Kaduna residents should bath with hot water mixed with salt and drink same.
She said this in a statement signed by her press secretary, Aisha Sani Junaid, which stated that the Kaduna First Lady at no time made such an unsubstantiated remark to any individual or group.
